-
Jeff McNeil extended his hitting streak to six games with his single on Saturday night
-
After a hot stretch at the plate, Pete Alonso has been held hitless over the first three games of this series, though he has drawn five walks
-
This is Kodai Senga‘s first-career start against the high-powered Braves
Who is starting for the Mets?
Kodai Senga takes the ball for the Mets against the Braves for the first time in his career.
The righty is coming off a strong start against the Cubs on regular rest. Pitching with his wife and kids in attendance for the first time, he allowed just two runs on seven hits while walking two and striking out six.
After a bit of an adjustment period, Senga has been lights out in his first season with the Mets. He’s cut down his walks and has posted a 3.24 ERA (third in NL), 1.30 WHIP, and 142 strikeouts (tenth in NL) through his first 21 outings. His signature ghost-forkball has been extremely effective, generating the highest whiff rate in baseball (58.9 percent).
Senga will look to be the stopper for the Mets, yet again, as he faces the powerful Braves lineup.
Who is starting for the Braves?
Senga and the Mets will be opposed by right-hander Yonny Chirinos in this one.
The righty, whom the Braves acquired the Rays designated him for assignment, has been working as a starter in Atlanta. He’s struggled for the most part, pitching to a 8.56 ERA, 1.68 WHIP, and just 13 strikeouts over three starts.
The 29-year-old has a 4.83 ERA, 1.32 WHIP, and 44 strikeouts over 76.1 innings of work this season.
Upcoming schedule
The Mets continue their long homestand as the Pittsburgh Pirates come to town for a three-game set starting on Monday at 7:10 p.m. on SNY.
The Pirates haven’t announced a starter yet, but Carlos Carrasco (3-6, 6.42 ERA) will take the ball for New York.
