Atlanta Braves at Truist Park

Located about 10 miles from downtown Atlanta, Truist Park has been home to the Braves since 2017. Before that, the team played at Turner Field since the 1997 season.

The $672 million Truist Park is surrounded by an entertainment district called The Battery Atlanta, and there’s plenty to do within the confines of the ballpark as well. A multilevel restaurant can be found in right field, and the treehouse-like Home Depot Clubhouse in left-center field. Kids should be sure to check out Hope & Will’s Sandlot behind the grandstand in left field. A canopy sits atop Truist Park’s upper deck, protecting fans from Georgia’s hot summer sun.

Atlanta Braves History

Established in 1871 as the Boston Red Stockings, the franchise likes to say it is the oldest continuously operating professional franchise in America. The team became the Boston Braves, moved to Milwaukee in 1953, and then moved to Atlanta in 1966. Bought by media mogul Ted Turner in 1976, the Braves developed a national following by being broadcast on Turner’s superstation, WTBS. While lots of sports clubs declare themselves America’s Team, the Braves for a long time could back up the claim merely by pointing to TV ratings.

The Braves have four World Series titles, with at least one for each of their hometowns: 1914 (as the Boston Braves), 1957 (as the Milwaukee Braves), 1995 (as the Atlanta Braves), and 2021 (also as the Atlanta Braves). The 1914 team featured Hall of Famer Johnny Evers; the Braves swept Connie Mack’s Philadelphia Athletics. The 1957 group was powered by the big bats of Eddie Mathews and eventual home-run king Hank Aaron, and by the arm of Warren Spahn; Milwaukee bested Mickey Mantle and the Yankees in seven games. The 1995 Braves were one of the great collections of arms in the history of the game, with Hall of Famers Tom Glavine, Greg Maddux and John Smoltz at the top of the rotation, and their offense was led by Hall of Fame third baseman Larry “Chipper” Jones. They dispatched the Indians in six games that year, however that one World Series victory is all the Braves have to show for an unprecedented era of dominance during which they won 14 straight division titles.

The Braves won their division in 2021 and advanced past the Milwauke Brewers in a hard fought NLDS 3 games to 1. They played the world champion Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLCS, besting them in 6 games, and went on their way to win the World Series against the Houston Astros. Looking to repeat their success in 2022, the Braves won the NL East in a toughly contested battle with the Mets, however they lost to the Philadelphia Phillies in the Division Series in four games.
