Football is very important in Germany and it is the most popular sport in the country with the Germany National Soccer Team being very well supported in the country. There is also a very strong youth soccer school system in Germany with the major German football clubs having their own youth soccer academies where the best youth players in the club’s football academies have a chance to join the First Team of the respective professional German soccer clubs that the youth soccer academy is affiliated with. Some of the youth football academies in Germany are associated with some of the most successful professional German soccer clubs including the FC Bayern Munich Junior Team which is affiliated with Bayern Munich, the Borussia Dortmund Youth Sector which is affiliated with Borussia Dortmund, and the RB Leipzig affiliated teams which are associated with RB Leipzig.
FC Bayern Munich Junior Team:
The FC Bayern Munich Junior Team is the youth soccer academy for Bayern Munich which is the most successful football team in German professional soccer. The youth soccer school has been around for more than one hundred years at different locations in the Munich area with the new youth football academy facilities being located near the Allianz Arena where the Bayern Munich First Team plays its home games. The new recently completed Bayern youth soccer academy is called the Allianz FC Bayern Akademie and it is located on the site of the FC Bayern Campus which is a sports complex located in the north of Munich. The Allianz FC Bayern Akademie is located inside the FC Bayern Campus where it serves as a central location for the clubs’ youth soccer teams including having apartments available for players in the football school who do not live in the Munich area. The FC Bayern Campus has multiple soccer fields for training as well as other facilities available for the players in the Bayern Munich youth academy soccer school. The FC Bayern Campus provides the soccer training fields for both the youth academy teams and the FC Bayern Munich First Team. Many football players who started out in the FC Bayern Munich Junior Team went on to later play for the Bayern Munich First Team including Franz Beckenbauer, Philipp Lahm, Sepp Maier, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Thomas Müller, Holger Badstuber, Christian Lell, Andreas Ottl, Owen Hargreaves, Mats Hummels, José Paolo Guerrero, Diego Contento, Toni Kroos, and David Alaba. Even though Bayern Munich has scouts around the world, most of the young players selected to join the youth soccer school come from within a few hours drive of Munich. FC Bayern tries to develop youth football talent within the greater Munich area and the following players were all discovered either within Munich or within a seventy kilometer radius from Munich: Philipp Lahm, Thomas Müller, Holger Badstuber, Diego Contento, Christian Lell, and Andreas Ottl. The FC Bayern Munich Junior Team trains talented youth soccer players with the goal of preparing them to hopefully one day join the Bayern Munich First Team. The football players in the youth soccer academy are trained for a specific soccer position ranging from goalkeeper, defender, midfielder, or forward where they are taught specialized skills based on the football position that they are training for with the hope of one day joining the FC Bayern Munich First Team.
Borussia Dortmund Youth Sector:
Borussia Dortmund is another of the biggest professional soccer clubs in Germany and the youth football academy for Borussia Dortmund is known as the Borussia Dortmund Youth Sector. Home games for players in the Dortmund youth soccer school are played at the Hohenbuschei training ground and the Borussia Dortmund Youth Sector has produced many youth football players who later went on to feature in the Borussia Dortmund First Team. Some of the more well known professional soccer players to have emerged from the Dortmund youth soccer academy include Mario Götze, Kevin Großkreutz, Marco Reus, Nuri Şahin, and Marcel Schmelzer. Dortmund also has a dormitory for players who come from outside of Dortmund but who have joined the Borussia Dortmund youth football school where those players can stay as they learn their soccer skills in the hopes of one day being able to join the Borussia Dortmund First Team. Some of the more well known professional football players who have come from the Borussia Dortmund Youth Sector include Mario Götze, Kevin Großkreutz, David Odonkor, Christian Pulisic, Marco Reus, Giovanni Reyna, Antonio Rüdiger, Nuri Şahin, and Marcel Schmelzer. RB Leipzig affiliated teams:
The RB Leipzig affiliated teams are the youth soccer academy teams which are associated with the RB Leipzig football club which is currently in the German Bundesliga professional first division soccer league in Germany. The main training ground for the RB Leipzig affiliated teams is the RB Leipzig training center at Cottaweg which the youth football academy shares with the professional soccer teams of RB Leipzig. The youth soccer school does have football training and games at other locations as well but their main training ground is the RB Leipzig training center at Cottaweg. RB Leipzig has established their youth academy football school with the hopes of developing youth soccer talents who might one day join the RB Leipzig First Team. The RB training center in Cottaweg also has on-site accommodations for youth academy soccer school players who do not live in the Leipzig area so that they can live at the youth football academy while they are developing their soccer skills. RB Leipzig has as a worldwide scouting network to look for youth soccer talents although the recruiting philosophy is different based on the ages of the football players that are potentially being recruited. For children up to the under eleven aged soccer teams, the football club only recruits in Leipzig and the immediate vicinity of the city while for children up to the under fifteen aged football teams, the soccer club recruits within a radius of one hundred kilometers from the city of Leipzig. However, for the RB Leipzig soccer teams starting at the under sixteen aged level and above, the football club recruits throughout Germany and on a worldwide basis to search for youth soccer talent who can hopefully join the RB Leipzig affiliated teams youth football school. The RB Leipzig affiliated teams typically look to develop youth soccer players who are mentally and physically fast as well as having the ball hunter mentality. The style of play that the youth football players of the RB Leipzig affiliated teams are taught while at the youth soccer academy involves being ball oriented and aggressive football players with a focus also being placed on running and forward defending in addition to having fast transitions on the soccer field.
