At 25-years-old, the Bulldogs QB is actually older than the likes of Justin Herbert, Jalen Hurts and Tua Tagovailoa who are already playing in the NFL. The question now is, ‘which team in the league is going to take a chance on the clearly gifted prospect?’

Stetson Bennett set to enter NFL in 2023

With a second consecutive national championship in the bag, it’s now safe to say there is nothing left for the Georgia Bulldogs’ quarterback, Stetson Bennett, to do at the collegiate level. In truth, the Bulldogs and their signal caller destroyed TCU’s horned frogs on Monday at SoFi stadium and with that, Bennett brought the curtain down on a college career that has been both frustrating and fantastic at times. Now, the time has come for him to take his talents to the next level and begin a career in the NFL.

This is where things get interesting. Though Bennett is highly regarded by many, various analysts have projected that he won’t be drafted in the first round, but rather the third or fourth. That’s to say, that the signal caller could potentially slip under the radar and make his way on to the roster of one of the league’s better teams. Indeed, Bennett will likely have to fight tooth and nail for a starting spot if that’s the case. On the other hand, this is a quarterback who has done so before and he succeeded.

What was Stetson Bennett’s career path?

When he arrived at the University of Georgia, Bennett was a low-tier three-star prospect out of Pierce County High School in Blackshear, Georgia. Shortly after he walked-on with the Bulldogs, however, former five-star recruit Justin Fields committed to them and with that, Bennett decided to depart for Jones County Junior College in Ellisville, Mississippi. It was there that Bennett would find his feet, throwing 1,840 yards along with 16 touchdowns in 12 games. At that point, he was heading for the 2019 season and as things were, Bennett considered transferring to Louisiana, but as we know the previously mentioned Fields transferred to Ohio State at which point the backup spot at Georgia was now free.

Bennett took the decision to return to the Bulldogs and the rest is history. There would of course be twists and turns, but as we know Bennett was central in leading the Dawgs to victory over Alabama the National Championship in 2021 and most recently against TCU on Monday in a 65-7 blowout. Across his four seasons with Georgia, Bennett threw for 8124 yards, 62 touchdowns and 21 interceptions. Decent numbers for a player that had to fight his way into a starting spot.

Who could draft Stetson Bennett?

As mentioned above, most analysts project that Bennett will be a third or fourth round pick. Assuming that’s the case, it’s highly likely that he will find himself as a third-string QB on a team’s depth chart by August. On the other hand, if Bennett can put it a decent showing during pre-season, he could in fact secure the backup spot with a number of teams and if that happens, he’d be just a step away from a starting position. With that said, let’s take a look at a few teams which appear to have either a third-string, or back up spot available on their roster :
