Aadam Hamed will make his professional debut next month.
The son of former world champion ‘Prince’ Naseem Hamed has been described as a ‘future star’ by his proud father.
Hamed, though, is set to turn over out of the way of the limelight, being set to make his bow in the paid code in Poland.
The 23-year-old will step between the ropes on August 26 at the Tarczynski Arena in Wroclaw after being confirmed as an addition to the supporting cast of the world heavyweight title clash between Oleksandr Usyk and Daniel Dubois.
Usyk was set to face Tyson Fury in an undisputed showdown in the spring, but quickly turned his attention to the WBA’s regular champion Dubois after talks over the historic bout collapsed after very public and heated negotiations.
Dubois, who many believed upon him turning professional would be the heir to the British heavyweight boxing hope throne, knocked out Trevor Bryan to capture the secondary trinket before defending it against Kevin Lerena at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last December, while Ukraine’s Usyk is a former cruiserweight undisputed champion and will also put the WBO, IBO, IBF and Ring Magazine titles on the line after failing to secure a clash against WBC king Fury.
Hamed will get the opportunity to get his career in the pro ranks off to a solid start on a big platform, albeit not on UK soil, with the fight set to be broadcast as part of the main card on TNT Sport Box Office.
“My son, Aadam, I’ve told everybody, is going to win Wimbledon one day,” the former WBO world champion of six years, Naseem, said of his children back in 2015. “My eldest, Sami, is 17. He’s going to be an actor, and my other son, Sulaiman, is the cutest.”
It is understood that Naseem Hamed’s other two sons are interested in pursuing careers in boxing, too, though at the time of writing it’s only Aadam who has made the transition.
Hamzah Sheeraz, the current Commonwealth middleweight champion who has recently been nominated as the mandatory challenger to British champion Denzel Bentley, is expected to return to the ring on the undercard of Usyk’s clash against Dubois, with Dmytro Mytrofanov (13-0-1, 6 KOs) under consideration as a potential opponent.
Further details regarding the show, which is a Frank Warren promotion for Queensberry in association with Alex Krassyuk and K2 Promotions, will be revealed in due course.
