The U.S. men’s basketball team lived up to its potential on Tuesday night, cruising to a 108-80 victory over Argentina for its first exhibition win.

After dropping consecutive games against Nigeria and Australia, Team USA showcased the talent and skill level that has made it the favorite to capture the gold medal at the 2021 Olympics. All five starters (Damian Lillard, Zach LaVine, Bradley Beal, Kevin Durant, Bam Adebayo) scored at least 12 points, and Team USA held Argentina to 38.4 percent shooting from the field.

“More intensity. We really honed in on the defensive side and just really locked in,” Adebayo said during his postgame interview with NBCSN.

Team USA has two exhibition games remaining before it travels to Tokyo. The Americans will face Australia on Friday and Spain on Monday.

7:30 p.m. — Team USA is firmly in control after another strong quarter. The effort and execution on both ends of the floor have been much better.

7:20 p.m. — Bam Adebayo pushes Team USA’s lead to 23 points with a two-handed slam in transition. 

7:15 p.m. — Important note: Luis Scola is still balling at 41 years old. The big man has a team-high 13 points and five rebounds.

When do the Olympics start?

The opening ceremony at the 2021 Olympics is July 23. The men’s basketball tournament tips off two days later on July 25 and ends with the medal games on Aug. 6-7.

Team USA is one of 12 teams to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics. It will be playing in Group A. Its group-play opponents will be France, Iran and the Czech Republic.
