BY KYLE STEVENS

Sir Tom Jones turned back the clock on Thursday, May 25 at the Beacon Theatre for his “Ages & Stages” tour.

The timeless legend rocked the stage and got the sold-out New York City crowd to get up on their feet. Fans of all ages – young and old – let loose and danced like it was the 1960s all over again. Just a couple of days ahead of his 83rd birthday, Jones performed some of the most iconic songs in his extensive catalog of work. His unmistakable baritone voice sounded as good as it ever did.

“It’s Not Unusual,” “Delilah,” “Sex Bomb,” and “What’s New Pussycat?” were just some of the tunes that Jones sang throughout the nostalgic evening. The knighted icon entertained those in attendance with stories about his wide variety of friends in the music industry in between his silky smooth set. At one point, Jones paid tribute to superstar Tina Turner, who passed away on May 24 after battling a long illness. Jones performed an emotional rendition of “Proud Mary” which moved members of the audience to tears. The chart-topping singer also belted out his infamous cover of Prince’s “Kiss,” which was an undeniable crowd favorite that people wanted to see.

Jones capped off the night in true rock and roll fashion by gyrating around the stage as only he can. Performing “Johnny B. Goode,” the singer kept the renowned spirit of Hall of Fame pioneer Chuck Berry alive and well in ‘23.

The familiar motto “age is just a number” proved to ring true when it came to Jones’ performance on Thursday. Having more energy and pep in his step than people who are decades younger than he is, the singer made everyone feel like a kid again for all those who stepped foot into the Beacon that night.

“Ladies and gentlemen, I’m going to say this because it’s the truth,” Jones said. “We’ve had a ball up here tonight, and we hope that you have too. So until we see you all again, goodnight, and God bless you all.”
