Oklahoma City Thunder rookie Chet Holmgren is reportedly among the players named to the USA Basketball select team ahead of the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup.

The news was reported by The Athletic’s Shams Charania and Joe Vardon.

The select team will practice and scrimmage daily against the senior roster Aug. 3-6 in Las Vegas, Nevada. They will also be eligible to travel with the team and serve as potential injury replacement players before the start of the event in the Philippines.

Joining Holmgren on the team will be teammate Jalen Williams, Detroit Pistons guard Cade Cunningham, Houston Rockets guard Jalen Green and Sacramento Kings forward Keegan Murray among others.

The complete select team has yet to be announced.

USA Basketball previously announced the roster for the FIBA Basketball World Cup with NBA All-Stars Anthony Edwards (Minnesota), Tyrese Haliburton (Indiana), Brandon Ingram (New Orleans) and Jaren Jackson Jr. (Memphis) headlining the group.

They will face Puerto Rico on Aug. 7 in Las Vegas in the first of five exhibition games. They will also have friendlies in Spain against Slovenia (Aug. 12) and Spain (Aug. 13) and wrap up their schedule in Abu Dhabi against Greece (Aug. 18) and Germany (Aug. 20).

Team USA will open play in Group C on Aug. 26 against New Zealand in Manila. They will face Greece on Aug. 28 and Jordan on Aug. 30 to wrap up the group phase. The top two teams from each group will advance to the second round.

The FIBA Basketball World Cup will help seven countries qualify for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France. The seven spots include the top two teams from the Americas and Europe (not including host France) and one team from Africa, Asia and Oceania.
