SugarHill Steward will indeed train WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury for his scheduled cross-over boxing match with Francis Ngannou.
Ngannou, a former UFC heavyweight champion, will be making his pro debut in the upcoming fight.
Their showdown takes place on October 28 in Saudi Arabia.
The contest has received a mountain of criticism due to Ngannou’s inexperience in a boxing ring.
Fury has been inactive since last December, when he battered and stopped Derek Chisora in their trilogy fight.
After several failed negotiations for other contests, Steward is just happy to see Fury staying busy.
“For me, I’m just happy that Tyson’s fighting, you know in boxing things don’t happen the way we want them to happen… Everybody else in the heavyweight division is fighting so if Tyson is fighting who he is fighting then I’m happy for that,” Steward told TNT Sports.
“But, it’s a lot more than just a fighter saying they want to fight. Both sides have teams and they have to agree and negotiate and make things happen for it to be possible. Whenever [Fury] calls me and they have an official press conference then we’re all locked in and ready.”
Fury had tried to make fights with several other opponents.
He failed to reach a deal with Oleksandr Usyk for an undisputed fight – when both sides were unable to agree on the financial terms for the rematch. British rival Anthony Joshua took a pass on facing Fury to pursue a planned rematch with Dillian Whyte next month. And Fury’s discussions with Zhilei Zhang were cut short when Joe Joyce exercised his contracted option for an immediate rematch to force a second meeting with the Chinese fighter.
