Real Madrid are ready to launch a bid for wantaway Paris-Saint Germain forward Kylian Mbappe this summer rather than wait for him to become a free agent in 2024, according to ESPN.

L’Equipe was the first outlet to report how Mbappe has informed his current club he has no intention of renewing his contract when it expires on June 30 next year.

In response, the Qatari-backed giants told Mbappe that he must agree fresh terms or be sold in the upcoming transfer window.

On Tuesday afternoon, Mbappe then released a statement via the AFP where he explained that he has “never” discussed a renewal with PSG and revealed his decision to leave them some time ago.

“PSG has been informed since July 15, 2022, of my decision not to extend beyond 2024, and the letter that was sent only served to confirm what I had already told them,” the Ballon d’Or hopeful said.

Amid Mundo Deportivo – and several other outlets – reporting that PSG will refuse to negotiate with them, ESPN now reports that Real Madrid are willing to table a bid for Mbappe this summer.

This would reduce the risk of losing him a third time, after previous disappointments in 2017 when he joined PSG from Monaco and in 2022 when he decided to commit his future to the Ligue 1 outfit for a further two years.

Sources have told ESPN that PSG are willing to listen to offers in the region of €150 million ($161.5m) for their star player this summer to avoid seeing him walk for free a year later.

This is a dramatic change in attitude considering that in August 2021, PSG rejected a €160 million ($172 million) bid for Mbappe – which went as high as €200 million ($215 million) according to ESPN – when his previous deal had around 10 months left to run.

Madrid reportedly suspect that PSG will do “whatever they can” to have Mbappe join another club and not them, with any negotiations between the two parties expected to be difficult.

If PSG are willing to head to the negotiating table, however, the 14-times Champions League winners would shelve plans to land Harry Kane and go for Mbappe instead.
