Harry Kane has completed his move to Bayern Munich from Tottenham, in a deal which could be worth up to $127 million.

Kane, 30, was out of contract at Tottenham next summer and could have started talks with any non-European team from January 1, 2024 about signing as a free agent from July 1, 2024.

Bayern Munich were determined to get Kane now and the German giants have pushed all summer long to sign the England captain. Now it is a reality as Kane will wear the No. 9 shirt for Bayern and has signed a four-year deal in Bavaria.

There were reports that Kane was ‘increasingly likely’ to stay at Tottenham for this season but the goalscoring machine decided he wants a new challenge.

Kane thanks Tottenham fans: ‘This was the time to leave’

Does this move make sense for Tottenham, Kane?

It does. Tottenham get a huge transfer fee for Kane, a player they’ve developed since the age of 11, and Kane gets to move to a team competing for the Champions League trophy and one which will almost certainly win multiple trophies each season.

Kane became Tottenham’s all-time leading goalscorer and he now deserves to be at a club where he can win trophies. Bayern’s style of play under Thomas Tuchel suits him well too and he will be the talisman at one of Europe’s biggest clubs.

With Tottenham unwilling to sell Kane to a direct Premier League rival this summer, a move abroad was his only option unless he wanted to stay at Spurs this season and leave on a free next summer. That latter option was always going to be the most likely for Kane but Tottenham just couldn’t let him leave for nothing.

It seemed like Kane was happy to stay at Spurs and run down his contract but previous reports suggested that Tottenham’s ownership have told chairman Daniel Levy that Kane has to be sold this summer unless a new contract can be agreed. It couldn’t and now feels like the best time for everyone to move on.

Kane will now be at Bayern for a few years, score tons of goals, win a few trophies and perhaps he can then head back to another Premier League team at the age of 34 and still have plenty of time to set the all-time Premier League goalscoring record.

Kane has made his boyhood club plenty of cash and then gets to win plenty of trophies for the next few years before deciding how he will end his career.

It is sad to see Kane leave the Premier League but nobody can begrudge him a move to be the main man at one of Europe’s top teams who win trophies season after season.
