SAN ANTONIO – Tristan Kalkreuth has yet to go the distance in San Antonio.
Joe Jones was unable to break that trend or withstand the power of the Duncanville, Texas-based prospect. Three knockdowns produced the end at 2:12 of round two in their cruiserweight contest Saturday evening from AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas.
Kalkreuth fought at a steady but persistent pace in the opening round before he dialed up the pressure. Jones was dropped by a left hook but managed to beat the count. Kalkreuth followed up and floored him seconds later. The fight ending sequence came from a right hand by Kalkreuth, which produced a delayed reaction knockdown. Jones was on a knee when his corner instructed the ringside inspector to have the referee stop the contest.
The victory was the third straight for Kalkreuth (11-1, 8KOs), who has scored knockouts in all three pro appearances in San Antonio. He has won three straight since a June 2021 defeat in El Paso, Texas.
Darius Fulghum continues to be a knockout every time out. The undefeated prospect from Houston remained perfect after a third-round stoppage of Jeremiah Curtright (2-2, 2KOs). Fulghum scored two knockdowns before referee Mark Calo-oy rescued Curtright from further punishment and stopped the fight at 2:17 of round three.
Fulghum jumped out to a strong start while Curtright never seemed built to last. The Missouri-based boxer twice lost his mouthpiece in the opening round and only enjoyed sporadic success with his right hand. Fulghum dropped Curtright twice in round three, both courtesy of body shots. An ensuing attack had Curtright defenseless in a corner before the fight was brought to a halt.
The multi-talented Fulghum (6-0, 6KOs) is also a licensed nurse. He earned his degree from Prairie View A&M University in 2019, one year after he won the National Golden Gloves in the 201-pound division.
Headlining the show, Austin’s Floyd Schofield (14-0, 11KOs) will face Haskell Lydell Rhodes (28-4-1, 13KOs) in a scheduled ten-round lightweight contest.
