Pick It: TBRB #1 Oscar Valdez vs. #9 Emanuel Navarrete (Saturday, ESPN, 10:00 PM EST)

If styles make fights, we have a hell of a fight on tap here. 28-year old WBO 130 pound titlist Emanuel Navarrete (37-1, 31 KO) holds a belt in his third weight class but his level of opposition has been fairly controlled since a pair of wins over Isaac Dogboe.

32-year old former featherweight and junior lightweight titlist Oscar Valdez (31-1, 23 KO) is a serious threat to anyone at his weight not named Shakur Stevenson. This looks like it could mix a bit like Miguel Cotto and Antonio Margarito and that’s nothing but a plus for the fans. Undercard action kicks off on ESPN+ at 7:55 and fans will also see Olympic Silver Medalist Richard Torrez in action.

Additional Shows to Watch For

Friday – Bell vs. Carcosia (DAZN, 8:30 PM EST)

The new OTX series continues with a main event in the junior lightweight division. 30-year old Albert Bell (23-0, 6 KO) has risen to number ten in the WBO rankings. 27-year old Presco Carcosia (11-2-1, 9 KO) is 3-2 in his last five but has never been stopped.

Saturday – #3 Joshua vs. Helenius (DAZN, 2:00 PM EST)

Sometimes you can’t make lemonade but the lemon of a lost date is far more bitter than at least getting some bang for your buck. Dillian Whyte’s latest misuse of pharmaceutical supplements blew up a rematch with 33-year old former unified heavyweight titlist Anthony Joshua (25-3, 22 KO). Rather than lose a camp as his years advance, Joshua will see live action with 39-year old Robert Helenius (32-4, 21 KO). Helenius returned to action just a week ago for his first action since being splattered in one by Deontay Wilder. Can the big punching late replacement shock the world? Probably not but at least it’s something to watch.

Saturday – #1 Rodriguez vs. Lopez (Showtime, 9:00 PM EST)

The last title left vacant by former undisputed bantamweight titlist Naoya Inoue will be filled here. 31-year old Emmanuel Rodriguez (21-2, 13 KO) is looking for his second IBF crown and enters off a big win over Gary Antonio Russell. 25-year old Melvin Lopez (29-1, 19 KO) has won eight straight to snare his first title shot. Junior welterweight Gary Antuanne Russell will also be in action on what should be a solid television card.
