By Ken Hissner: At the Desert Diamond Arena, Glendale, Arizona, Saturday over ESPN Bob Arum (Top Rank) and Fernando Beltran (Promociones Zanfer) presented in the Main Event former WBO Featherweight champion and current WBO World Super Featherweight champion Emanuel “Vaquero” Navarrete defeated former WBO Featherweight and WBC World Super Featherweight champion Oscar Valdez over 12 action rounds.

In the main event, former WBO Super Bantamweight, WBO World Featherweight, and current WBO World Super Feather champ Emanuel “Vaquero” Navarrete, 38-1 (31), #130, of San Juan, Zitlaltepec, MEX, former WBO Feather and WBC World Super Feather champion defeated 2012 Olympian Oscar Valdez, 31-2 (23), #129.8, of Nogales, Sonora, MEX, over 12 action-packed rounds.

In the first round, it was all action from both fighters. In the final minute, Navarrete landed half a dozen unanswered punches taking the round. In the last thirty seconds Valdez finally hurt Navarrete with a left hook on the chin, only to have Navarrete come back well.

In the third round end of the first minute, Valdez rocked Navarrete with a left hook on the chin. In the final minute, Navarrete landed several left uppercuts to the body of Valdez. In the final seconds, they exchanged rights to the chin. Navarrete in a clinch, landed a solid right on the chin of Valdez, taking another round.

In the fourth round’s final minute, Valdez landed a chopping right on the head of Navarrete. In the final seconds, both landed punches at the same time on the chin. In the fifth round final minute, Valdez rocked Navarrete with a left hook to the chin.

In the final seconds, it was Navarrete landing a combination. Valdez won his first round but had an abrasion under his right eye on the cheekbone starting to swell.

In the sixth round’s final minute, Valdez had his best round out-landing Navarrete. In the seventh round, Navarrete was back in control, outworking Valdez with both landing punches at the bell.

In the eighth round, Navarrete had an edge. In the ninth round, after thirty seconds, Valdez landed a left on the chin and stepped on his foot, driving Navarrete back into the ropes. Navarrete may have hurt his right using it sparingly. Valdez had a good round.

In the tenth round, Navarrete came out-landing punch after punch causing swelling on the right eye of Valdez. In the final half minute, both were landing punches in an all-action ending. The right eye of Valdez was nearly shut.

In the eleventh round, just over a minute, Valdez rocked Navarrete with a right on the chin. Navarrete took over after that. In the twelfth and final round, the right eye of Valdez had closed, and surprisingly, the ring physician didn’t check him.

With a little over a minute remaining, both had their moments to the delight of the fans with blood now dripping down from the right eye and cheek of Valdez.

The fans were on their feet at the end, including former champions Erik Morales and Marco Antonio Barrera at ringside. Referee Wes Melton did a fine job.

Scores were 116-112, 118-110 and 119-109, and 117-111 KH.

In the first three rounds, Delgado had the edge in all close rounds. In the fifth round, the fans were asking for more action and Delgado is giving Valtierra a boxing lesson but not many exchanges.

In the sixth through the ninth round, Delgado continued out-landing and backing up Valtierra. In the tenth and final round, Delgado continued trying for the knockout but couldn’t hurt Valtierra, who though having a good round, was still not enough to take it.
