Anthony Joshua v Robert Helenius

Frazer Clarke thinks Joshua needs to impress on Saturday.

Frazer Clarke believes an impressive display from Anthony Joshua could put him back in the mix for a title shot.

Joshua fights Robert Helenius on Saturday evening, live on DAZN at the O2 Arena in London, England.

The heavyweight is a former world champion but lost consecutive fights against Oleksandr Usyk before returning with a win this April against Jermaine Franklin.

He was set to fight Dillian Whyte in a rematch this weekend, but instead fights late replacement Helenius.

While he is a favourite, a dominant display could give him confidence against Deontay Wilder, who he is potentially to fight next January.

Speaking to Sky Sports, fellow British heavyweight Clarke said: “He’s a performance away from being back in the conversation.

“Last time out against Jermaine Franklin, it was a solid performance. It didn’t set the world alight or do anything to make you think he’d bash [up] Tyson Fury or Usyk. But he’s one performance away from having people demanding the Fury fight next.”

Of a failure to make big title fights in the division lately, he added: “It’s always been a business, but it’s never been a business like it is now. I think Fury is about the business and he doesn’t even want to risk his ‘0’ [undefeated record].

“I’m the same as any fan, I want to see the best fight the best. But I know how it works behind the scenes. I hear the conversations and the complications when it comes to making the fights.”

“I think all the fights we want to see will happen. It just takes really good mediators, promoters and fighters that are ultimately willing to fight for the pride of being the best in the world and not to protect their legacy and their ‘0’.”
