Rookie running back Deuce Vaughn made his debut as a Dallas Cowboy on Saturday showing he is a force to be reckoned with even at 5’5 and 179 pounds.

The 21-year-old out of Kansas State is in the running to join Tony Pollard in the Dallas backfield, and if Saturday’s showing is any indication, the Boys’ running game could be just as exciting as their “West Coast” offense in 2023.

Vaugh Dazzles in preseason debut

Even though the stats columns don’t reflect a stacked performance, Vaughn participated in two drives during the 3rd quarter of the game against the Jacksonville Jaguars where he produced 8 carries for 56 yards and a TD, along with 3 receptions for 6 yards.

The Cowboys scored in both drives and went ahead on the board 10-17 after his touchdown.

There had been a lot of hype surrounding the running back after great performances during training camp and he delivered in his first opportunity to shine, scoring a leading touchdown in the second half of the game that had fans chanting “Deuce” after the player reached the endzone.

Dak Prescott’sCowboys opened their preseason at home at AT&T Stadium with a loss against the Jaguars by a scoreline of 28-23.

Vaughn wants to prove that “he belongs” in the NFL

Talking to the media after the game, Vaughn commented on his stellar debut by saying that

“It’s hard to put into words, man… To get in the endzone in the first preseason game, it’s a testament to all of the work that’s been put in since pre-draft.”

When asked if he had proved something after Saturday’s game Vaughn responded with “Just that I belong…I feel like that’s the biggest thing for me coming in, just proving the people that believe in me right. It doesn’t stop now. We go back to work Monday and into the next preseason game.”

The Cowboys will travel to Seattle to play the Seahawks in their second preseason game on Saturday, August 19. Kickoff is scheduled for 10 pm E.T.
