Training camp for the 2023 USA Women’s AmeriCup Team will begin Wednesday, June 21, at the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. As previously announced, eight athletes were selected to the team following trials in May, while six athletes have been invited to training camp to compete for the remaining roster spots.\n

The 12-member roster will be announced before the team goes to the 2023 FIBA Women’s AmeriCup July 1-9 in León, Mexico.

As announced in May, the eight 2023 USA Women’s AmeriCup Team members are Lauren Betts, Rickea Jackson, Raven Johnson, Rayah Marshall, Charisma Osborne, Laila Phelia, Angel Reese and Jewel Spear.

After participating in team trials, Janiah Barker, Makira Cook, Abbey Hsu, Chance Gray and Aneesah Morrow were invited to training camp. Additionally, Deja Kelly (University of North Carolina) will attend training camp as a part of the selection process. Kelly has participated in previous USA Basketball team trials.

All athletes are selected by the USA Basketball Women’s Junior National Team Committee, in collaboration with Jennifer Rizzotti, chair of the USA Basketball Women’s National Team Committee.

The team is coached by Kamie Ethridge (Washington State University), Aaron Johnston (South Dakota State University) and Katrina Merriweather (University of Cincinnati).

The United States will face Argentina, Brazil, Cuba and Venezuela as part of Group A. The U.S. opens pool play against Venezuela on July 1, followed by Argentina on July 2 and Brazil on July 4 with all three games tipping off at 4:40 p.m. ET. The USA closes pool play facing Cuba on July 5 at 2:10 p.m. ET.

If the USA advances, quarterfinals are scheduled for July 7 followed by semifinals on July 8 and the medal games on July 9. Game times and broadcast information will be announced later.

Since the event’s inception in 1989, the United States has captured four Women’s AmeriCup gold medals, including titles in 2019 and 2021. In addition to the United States, Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Venezuela will participate in the 2023 FIBA Women’s AmeriCup.
