The 2023 NFL Draft is April 27-29 in Kansas City, Missouri, and former Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett is among the quarterbacks on the board. Mel Kiper, in an interview with The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, projected the range of which rounds the two-time College Football Playoff national champion and 2022 Heisman Trophy finalist could land.

“Right now, I’d say Bennett’s anywhere between the sixth and eighth quarterbacks,” Kiper said. “They all have the same grades, and he’s right in there. (Former Tennessee starter) Hendon Hooker is the fifth-highest-rated quarterback after the big four (Alabama’s Bryce Young, Ohio State’s C.J. Stroud, Florida’s Anthony Richardson and Kentucky’s Will Levis), but you could argue it could be Stetson Bennett.”

Bennett has received interest from at least 10 NFL teams since his pro day, according to a report from NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

“I mean, a few inaccuracies on a couple of balls, but other than that I thought it went pretty well,” Bennett said of his pro day, via Dawgs247. “I tried to just go and do what I did on tape. I always thought I had a strong arm, was accurate, and can move. Do what we did every day at practice. Just want to be consistent. That’s why I’m a little upset we missed a few today. But it is what it is. Just arm strength, accuracy, anticipation, timing, things like that.

“… It’s really for the scouts and for all of that — how they look at it or how they use it to determine, back up the film or maybe something they didn’t see. I don’t know, but it’s something we’ve got to do so. It’s probably that on the field there’s so much going on — other stuff. Here, it is routes on air, how the ball looks coming out of his hand, anticipation, and different kinds of routes. It’s strictly physical besides avoiding the rush and that stuff.”

Pre-draft projections are all over the place for Bennett, from a third-round pick to a late-round selection. Kiper suggests Bennett is in the “next tier” with Fresno State quarterback Jake Haener and projects him to be an early to mid-round selection.

At 25, Bennett is one of the oldest players available and his size, at 5-11, 190 pounds, also leads to questions about his measurables.

“People have slept on Stetson Bennett for too long,” said Georgia coach Kirby Smart after the Bulldogs’ 65-7 win over TCU in the 2023 National Championship. “He needs an opportunity to play for a long time at the next level.”

Georgia expects to have double-digit draft picks once again in 2023 with Jalen Carter, Broderick Jones, Nolan Smith and Kelee Ringo each getting first-round buzz.
