USA Basketball is solidifying its 12-man roster for the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup after securing commitments from several players ahead of the event.

Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards, New Orleans Pelicans forward Brandon Ingram and Memphis Grizzlies forward Jaren Jackson Jr. are among the players announced by the team that will represent the United States.

The roster, for the first time, will be constructed by new managing director Grant Hill. Steve Kerr (Golden State) takes over from Gregg Popovich as head coach and will be assisted by Erik Spoelstra (Miami), Tyronn Lue (LA Clippers) and Mark Few (Gonzaga).

The group will open play in Group C on Aug. 26 against New Zealand in Manila, Philippines. They will face Greece on Aug. 28 and Jordan on Aug. 30 to wrap up the group phase. The top two teams from each group will advance to the second round.

To prepare, Team USA will face Puerto Rico on Aug. 7 in Las Vegas in the first of five exhibition games. They will play friendlies in Spain against Slovenia (Aug. 12) and Spain (Aug. 13) and wrap up their schedule in Abu Dhabi against Greece (Aug. 18) and Germany (Aug. 20).

Team USA has qualified for the World Cup in all 19 occurrences of the event. The Americans have taken home the gold medal five times and last won the event in 2014. In their last appearance in 2019, the team lost in the quarterfinals in China.

The event will help seven countries qualify for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France. The seven spots include the top two teams from the Americas and Europe (not including host France) and one team from Africa, Asia and Oceania.

Magic coach Jamahl Mosley called it a great opportunity for him.

I think it is such a great experience. To be around that high level of players and to see where you are, to learn from some other great players throughout the league, it allows him to raise his level and, also, his ability to lead and speak and use his voice for the leadership in our locker room.
